Kurginyan on US foreign policy: It’s classical gangster logic

24.09.2018, Moscow.

The point of the US gangster logic is that everyone will act in Washington’s interest, and those who refuse will get bombed, political scientist and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on the air of the Time Will Show TV program on the Russian Channel One on September 21.

Sergey Kurginyan noted in his comment on the US authorities’ approaches in foreign policy, that Trump’s behavior is set by the logic that was historically formed in the US Republican Party. This logic differs from the rhetoric of the American democrats, “There are figuratively speaking, New York, the Democrats, the financial community, mass media, and so on, who at least want to imitate that it is all about values and the world order. And there is Trump, who says, ‘There is the US national interest! To hell with your values. We have only interests. We trample on the interests of all the rest, asserting our own. And there is nothing else in the world except our interest.’ This is the permanent conflict between, say, the radically conservative American circles and all these democratic circles. In general, New York versus Washington, let’s say, first of all.

According to the leader of the Essence of Time movement, at this moment US President Trump is trying to push the Republican logic, while the financial community in New York, which stands behind the Democrats, is opposing it: “New York is offended, because New York wants values. ‘We have values, you all have to listen to us because we have the same values! We are the most noble! We’re doing so good.’ Now Trump says, ‘We are the strongest! Enough of this bullshit that we are the most noble! We take off the mask, and we say: ‘We are the strongest! The world is dominated by brute force!’

According to Kurginyan, such rhetoric for the first time became the mainstream at the time of George H.W. Bush, then Condoleezza Rice suddenly stated that all previous US allies are their enemies, and Washington’s new allies are those who were enemies, “It was implied that all emerging bourgeois nation states are enemies. It became clear immediately that the United States was putting up a barrier against further catch-up development by all other countries, because the sovereign nation state is now unacceptable. It must be destroyed. And they have begun to destroy them. In Egypt, in Syria, in Libya, in Tunisia, everywhere.

Russia, China and Iran could not tolerate such a situation. According to Kurginyan, Russia decided to lead this bloc, and that is why the US considers it more dangerous today than it was in the times of the USSR, when there was competition between the two superpowers, “But when it ended, the US first and foremost became impudent. And secondly, they became frightened because suddenly it became clear that there was no Soviet Union, but there was China. And there are all these developing countries that want to create sovereign states. Then Putin appeared and stated that we have a sovereign democracy, sovereignty and so on. Essentially, a bloc of development-minded bourgeois conservative nation states emerged, and this American globalism arose opposite to them, which supports what? ISIL (organization banned in Russia), Al-Qaeda (organization banned in Russia), anything that is only capable of destroying sovereign bourgeois nation states. Russia became a leader, and therefore, a demon.

In 2005, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said at Cairo University that  America refuses to ensure stability in the Middle East, and it opens the way for the “hard work of democracy.” “For 60 years, my country, the United States, pursued stability at the expense of democracy in this region, here in the Middle East, and we achieved neither. Now, we are taking a different course. We are supporting the democratic aspirations of all people. It is time to abandon the excuses that are made to avoid the hard work of democracy,” Rice said. This statement became a turning point in US Middle Eastern foreign policy. On the pretext of promoting democracy, the US incited a series of coups d’état in Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt. This series of coups was called the Arab Spring.
