Kurginyan: Russia should recognize DPR and LPR in response to Zakharchenko's assassination

04.09.2018, Moscow.

Russia should officially recognize the DPR and LPR in response to the terrorist act that killed Aleksandr Zakharchenko, the leader of Essence of Time, political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on September 3 on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program on the Russian Channel One.

According to Kurginyan, “politics is a complex and multidimensional thing” and not every strike should receive a direct strike back in response, but “now is the right time, when we can and must respond.”

“The response should be as calm as possible. This extremely calm response is to simply recognize both the DPR and LPR after they hold a referendum,” the political scientist said.

Kurginyan believes that Russia has already been waiting for too long, but it’s better late than never. After the Ukrainian side “has thrown the Minsk agreements into the garbage and committed a terrorist attack in the most horrendous of fashions,” it is now “time for a different policy.”.

As a result of terrorist attack on August 31st, the Donetsk People’s Republic leader Aleksandr Zakharchenko was killed. On September 2nd, Igor Mosiychuk, the member of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada suggested Ukrainian authorities recognize Zakharchenko’s killing by the Ukrainian security agencies.

On February 18, 2017, Russia officially recognized the DPR’s and LPR’s documents by a special Order of the Russian President in response to Ukraine’s total blockade of Donbass. Lamberto Zannier, former Secretary General of the OSCE called this act a de facto recognition of the republics by Russia.
