Miners of a number of Ukrainian coal mining companies declared a mass strike, Izvestia newspaper reports citing Mikhail Volynets, head of the Independent Trade Union of Miners in Ukraine.

According to the head of the Trade Union, workers of the Volyn region mines, as well as workers of Mirnogradugol, Pervomaiskugol and Selidovugol state enterprises are on strike. A sitting protest took place at their workplaces from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Miners demand payment of wage arrears and adoption of a bill on the industry’s financial support. At present, wage arrears to miners in Ukraine reached about $ 41.6 million, Volynets wrote on his Facebook page.

In recent years, miners declare strikes in Ukraine more and more often. 2017 witnessed a number of strikes with more than 1,500 miners taking part in them.

The last major strike happened on July 3, when striking miners blocked Lvov-Rava-Russkaya international highway in the Lvov region.
