Donetsk People’s Republic: Kiev violates ceasefire 40 times in the last 24 hours

18.05.2018, Donetsk.

The Ukrainian army violated the ceasefire 39 times in the last 24 hours, the DPR representative told journalists on May 18 at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) of the ceasefire regime, RIA Novosti reports.

“In the last 24 hours, a total of 39 violations were committed (by the Ukrainian army)… Yesterday morning, a resident of Zaytsevo was wounded by the Ukrainian army’s shelling,” the representative noted.

According to the JCCC, the Ukrainian military used grenade launchers, armored vehicles, and small arms. Over 350 mortar bombs and shells were fired on the DPR territory. In total, the Ukrainian army fired 895 munitions, the DPR representative at the JCCC reported.

On April 20, the observers of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission reported a 10% increase of the number of ceasefire violations in the DPR. As for heavy weapons, which are prohibited by the Minsk agreements, they are now used by the Ukrainian military 9 times more frequently.

According to the DPR Deputy Chief of the Operative Command Eduard Basurin, the Ukrainian army “is transiting form the practice of night shelling of cities to the tactics of morning and daytime strikes.” This is done in order to damage as many infrastructure facilities as possible and to maximize civilian casualties. In late April, Pyotr Poroshenko announced that the so-called Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), which was formally controlled by the SBU (the Ukrainian security service), would transform into a format of a Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation (JFO) under the Ukrainian army’s general command.
