Illegal facility for making chemical weapons is found in Syria

18.04.2018, Douma.

Illegal laboratory used for manufacturing poisoning agents was found in the center of the Syrian city of Douma, Zvezda TV-Channel reported on April 17.

After the recent city’s liberation from militants and examination of its districts, on April 17 the Russian military discovered an illegal facility, where chemicals were stored for producing poisoning agents. The capacity of the laboratory and production equipment allowed militants to make poisoning agents in the volumes necessary for staging chemical attacks against the city.

“The discovered agents like thiodiglycol and diethanolamine are necessary for making sulfur and nitrogen mustard gasses. In addition, a chlorine container was also found in the warehouse, similar to the one militants used for staging the hyped fake attack. One can conclude that illegal armed groups used the laboratory to make poisoning agents,” Alexander Rodionov, a specialist of the Nuclear and Chemical Defence troops commented on the equipment of the illegal facility to Alexey Golovko, correspondent of Zvezda TV-Channel.

The TV report shows that the laboratory was installed in a regular basement. Tools and chemicals, notebooks with chemical formulas and calculations of proportions of chemical reagents are scattered all around the facility. In addition, a poster of the Syria Civil Defence organization, better known as White Helmets, with information materials was found at the facility’s entrance.

Locals showed the facilities of the neighboring buildings to Zvezda reporters, where the saltpeter bags and containers were found, similar to the ones White Helmets used to manufacture the evidence of the chemical attack against civilians and “rebels”. Local citizens also said that militants tightly guarded these facilities. They were clearing the streets of all witnesses when cargo was delivered and unloaded there.

On April 7th, Western politicians and media outlets cited video materials provided by White Helmets to accuse the Syrian government and President Bashar al-Assad personally of using chemical weapons in the Syrian city of Douma against civilians and “rebels”. The Syrian government together with the Russian General Staff refuted the allegations, but the US-led coalition used its naval and air forces to conduct missile and bombing strikes against the facilities located in Syria to deprive “the Assad regime” of the opportunity to produce and use chemical weapons.

This is not the first time when the US-led coalition of Western countries uses similar incidents as a pretext to attack the Syrian government without waiting for any evidence of its involvement. In the same way, a chemical attack in Khan Shaykhun of 2017 was used to conduct strikes over the Shayrat airbase three days after the attack.
