Over 70 shells fired on Lugansk People’s Republic on Easter

The Ukrainian army violated the declared “Easter ceasefire”, firing over 70 shells against the Republic within 24 hours, the spokesman of the People’s Militia of the Lugansk People’ Republic, Lieutenant Colonel Andrey Marochko, said, Lugansk Information Center reported on April 9.

 “Our positions near the towns of Kalinovka and Lozovoe were shelled. Ukrainian militants used 82 mm mortars, the weapons of infantry fighting vehicles, a 23 mm anti-aircraft gun, as well as large-caliber and small guns,” the lieutenant colonel said.

According to Andrey Marochko, the situation in the Republic defense ministry’s zone of responsibility remains tense; in the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian military violated the ceasefire twice.

 “A total of over 70 artillery and mortar shells were fired on the Republic’s territory,” Marochko said.

On March 30, 2018, an “Easter ceasefire” became effective in Donbass, which was agreed upon by the Contact Group for the resolution of the situation in the region.
