Turkey suffers casualties south of Afrin

The Turkish military suffered casualties in killed and wounded after a mortar attack near the Syrian city of Afrin, a correspondent of the Rossa Primavera Information Agency reports from the scene.

Turkish military units were attacked near the village of Kimar to the south of Afrin. Militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) struck with mortars, leaving one Turkish serviceman killed and four wounded.

Since January 20, Turkey has been carrying out Operation Olive Branch against the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party. Turkey believes that these are PKK-linked terrorist organizations. The operation is taking place, in particular, near the city of Afrin. On March 19, the President of Turkey announced that the city was seized. The SDF, in its turn, said that guerrilla warfare tactics would be used against the Turkish army.
