Expert: US will step up its interference into Russia's internal affairs

05.03.2018, Moscow.

US intervention into Russia’s internal affairs will intensify, said Andrei Bezrukov, a former intelligence officer and an Associate Professor at the Department of Applied International Analysis of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), at a roundtable within the framework of the Federation Council’s Interim Commission for the protection of state sovereignty on March 5, Rossa Primavera News Agency correspondent reports.

“Now, Washington elites are in deep crisis. The US is going through an existential crisis. In this sense, it is important for them to find an enemy, and Russia fills the bill by definition since we do not have deep economic ties,” noted Bezrukov.

At the same time, he noted that Vladimir Putin’s statement about having the means to defend his country and his allies from any military action shifted the confrontation from the military sphere into others.

The information war will become one of the tools of the US’ struggle, Bezrukov believes. As he put it, “directing a global news flow,” which complements the US interests, is unquestionably a weapon in this matter.

At the end of the speech, he suggested the Commission to pay more attention to technological sovereignty. In today’s world, it is impossible to preserve the sovereignty of the country without having technological autonomy, according to Bezrukov.

On March 1, Vladimir Putin, in his address to the Federal Assembly, said that Russia would respond instantly to any use of nuclear weapons against Russia or its allies.
