Ukrainian scientist who wrote about the unity of the fraternal Slavic peoples passed away

Dr. Miroslav Popovich, the Soviet and Ukrainian philosopher, director of the Grigory Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine passed away, vice-rector of the Kiev National University Vladimir Bugrov wrote in Facebook on February 11.

Vladimir Bugrov said that Miroslav Popovich’s death is terrible and sad news. Dr. Bugrov wrote that Professor Popovich is his moral authority, and his death is a great loss for Ukraine.

According to the available information, Miroslav Popovich died in the intensive care unit at about 9 p.m. on February 10.

Soviet and Ukrainian astronomer, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and an expert in the field of astronomy Yaroslav Yatskiv commented Bugrovs post, saying, “I went into the intensive care unit, I hoped for the mercy of the Lord“.

Miroslav Popovich is the author of many scientific works on the philosophy of science, history of culture, logic, and other fields.

In his works on the culture of the Slavs he holds to the classical Soviet views on the rise and origin of the Old Russian state. Thus, in the book Worldview of the Ancient Slavs he wrote about the ethnic unity of Rus’, which played an important role in overcoming the princely particularism. He analyzed the ideological foundations of the Russian people’s unity.

Miroslav Popovich concluded that “The cultural heritage of Kievan Rus’ is the foundation on which the culture of fraternal Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian peoples was built“.
