Lomonosov Moscow State University Rector: villas on exoplanets? Scientists are to answer

07.02.2018, Moscow.

Only an “army of scientists” is capable of addressing questions about the future of human beings, Rector of the Lomonosov Moscow State University Victor Sadovnichy said at the opening speech of  Moscow Day of Science at the State Kremlin Palace on February 5th, Rossa Primavera News Agency reports.

Among common concerns for every person, Sadovnichy focused on the problem of decreasing workplaces for humans and replacing them by robots, the prospects of developing an artificial intelligence and the possibility to build villas on exoplanets in the near future.

“Every person on Earth, no matter who he or she is, always asks the same question: what is waiting for us? What future lies ahead? Is it true that a lot of professions will no longer exist and robots will replace people? Is it true that scientists are to make artificial intelligence in the near future? And is it true that soon enough we will fly to an exoplanet and start building villas there?” the academic said.

According to Sadovnichy, only the “army of scientists” can answer these questions.

University rector also stressed a unique contribution of Moscow in “building a strong scientific fellowship of the Soviet Union as well as of our country“.

“It was here, where the major projects to protect our country were born:  the atomic project, the space project,” the scientist said.

A gala concert celebrating the Day of the Russian Science took place in the State Kremlin Palace.  The event among others gathered Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin and Russian Minister of Education and Science Olga Vasilyeva. As a part of the celebration, the award ceremony of Young Scientists Prize laureates took place.
