Russian Foreign Minister: US does not want to preserve Syria's territorial integrity

15.01.2018, Moscow.

The US authorities do not want to preserve the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on January 15, TASS reports.

“The actions we currently see indicate that the United States does not want to preserve Syria’s territory in one piece,” Lavrov said.

The minister also recalled a new initiative, announced in Washington on the previous day, to organize certain “border security zones” to help the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

“In fact, that means the isolation of a huge territory along the borders with Turkey and Iraq,” the diplomat added.

Recently, Colonel Thomas F. Veale, the Public Affairs Officer for the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) of the U.S.-led Coalition, said that the coalition is working together with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to build a new Syrian Border Security Force (BSF) of this Arab country.

According to Aleksey Pushkov, the Chairman of the Federation Council’s Commission on Information Policy and Media Relations of the Russian Federation, these action of the United States are aimed at territorial disintegration of Syria, adding that Washington’s goals contradict its official position, which calls for a unified Syria.
