Russian Human Well-Being Service warned of measles outbreak in Ukraine and the EU

15.01.2018, Moscow.

Due to the worsening epidemiological situation in neighboring countries sanitary and quarantine control at the Russian border is strengthened, the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) press center reported on January 15.

A high prevalence of measles is observed in Romania, Italy, and Germany. The unfavorable situation takes place in Ukraine:

For 11 months of 2017, 3,382 cases of contracting the disease have been registered. The most unfavorable situation takes place in Ivano-Frankovsk (1049 cases), Odessa (931 cases) and Zakarpatskaya regions (416 cases).

Specialists of Rospotrebnadzor draw the attention of Russian citizens to the unfavorable epidemiological situation in the neighboring countries, which should be taken into account while planning trips.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Health blames the high prevalence of measles in Ukraine on the low rate of vaccination from this disease.
