Security Council of Iran: A number of countries coordinate protests through social media

02.01.2018, Iran.

Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council Ali Shakhmani in his interview to the Al Mayadeen TV-Channel on January 2nd called protests in the country “a proxy-war” of a number of states against Iran, Tasnim Agency reports.

The United States, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia coordinate protests through social media. “Based on our analysis, about 27 percent of new anti-Iran hashtags were developed by the Saudi government,”  Shahmani said. “Saudi Arabia cannot openly intervene in Iran, and therefore, is trying to destabilize the situation indirectly, through ‘popular protests’,” Ali Shahmani explained.

A number of major Iranian cities have been facing anti-government protests since December 28. A number of countries have already expressed support for the protesters. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the protests a “noble quest for freedom.”  US President Donald Trump said that “it is time for change in Iran.”
