Four ceasefire violations reported in Syria in one day

19.12.2017, Syria.

Russian representatives at the Mediation Commission in Syria registered four incidents of ceasefire violation, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported in an information bulletin on December 18.

“The situation in the de-escalation areas is estimated to be stable. The Russian part of the office of the joint Russian-Turkish commission for the investigation of issues related to ceasefire violations registered four violations within one day in the following provinces: Aleppo (two), Homs (one), and Damascus (one). The Turkish part of the representative office registered one incident of shooting in Damascus,” the bulletin published at the Ministry’s web site said.

A memorandum on the creation of de-escalation areas in the Syrian Arab Republic was signed by the Russian Federation, the Republic of Turkey, and the Islamic Republic of Iran on May 4, 2017. For now, the number of towns and villages that have joined the ceasefire regime is 2,311. However, radical Islamist groups and the so-called Syrian irreconcilable opposition refuse to recognize this agreement, and they regularly violate the ceasefire trying to destabilize the situation on Syria.
