Conflicting Ukrainian security officials to be reconciled in Washington

04.12.2017, USA.

Valery Chaly, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA, hopes to reconcile the leaders of the Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (Russian: NABU) during their visit to Washington, the 112 Ukraine TV channel reported on December 4.

“The Director of NABU Anton Sytnik is already here starting from today; also, the head of the anti-corruption prosecutor’s office Nazar Kholodnitsky is coming as well as other leaders of the law enforcement agencies and the Prosecutor General’s Office. I think we will gather them all here in the Embassy,” the Ambassador said.

Also, according to Chaly, the Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Evgeny Esin is going to come to Washington.

In the recent months, an active confrontation began between security services in Ukraine. Law enforcement officials prosecute and arrest officials of opposing agencies. For example, on November 16, the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case against the NABU Director Artem Sytnik who is accused of divulging investigation secrets. In response, NABU initiated an investigation against the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko for unlawful enrichment.

Before that, on October 31, NABU detectives detained the son of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Aleksandr Avakov, the former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sergey Chebotar, and businessman Vladimir Litvin. All the three were released “on their own recognizance” the following day.
