Expert: US air strike on Islamists in Somalia is unusual

28.11.2017, Russia.

An expert, the Vice President of the Experimental Creative Centre International Public Foundation Yuri Byaly called the US airstrike against Islamists in Somalia unusual on November 28 in an interview to a correspondent of the Rossa Primavera Information Agency.

“The event is quite unusual. This may be a reaction to adjacent Sudan’s proposal for Russia to set up a base at Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast. This may also be a preventive reaction to the approach of ISIL (organization banned in Russia ― Rossa Primavera Information Agency) to the American base in Djibouti,” Byaly said.

On November 28, the US Air Force attacked ISIL (organization banned in Russia ― Rossa Primavera Information Agency) positions in the north-eastern Somalia killing one extremist.

Sudan’s proposal for Russia to set up a military base on the Red Sea became known after the meeting of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of Sudan Omar al-Bashir on November 23.

In the Republic of Djibouti, which borders on Somalia, the largest American military base in Africa, Camp Lemonnier (personnel is up to 4 thousand servicemen), is located, as well as a French military base (about 3 thousand). Also, in July 2017, China announced its plans to set up a navy base in Djibouti.
