Giulietto Chiesa: Behind democratic façade the world falls into a new barbarism

11.11.2017, Russia.

Democracy has become only a ceremonial screen for the most dangerous processes of degeneration, growing madness, falling into a new barbarism, said Giulietto Chiesa, a former member of the European Parliament, research fellow at the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington on November 5 at the Sofia club open meeting, a correspondent of the Rossa Primavera News Agency reports.

Chiesa agrees with Sergei Kurginyan that capitalism can be replaced with something worse than capitalism,

Democracy has long disappeared in all senses, except ceremonial, says the scientist. The world falls into a new barbarism while calling itself capitalist. This means that the slogan “it’s either socialism or barbarism” can return on the agenda, to some extent.

If Paul Craig Roberts is right, there are already crazy people in America, adds Chiesa. And these people are at the controls of the most powerful country in the world. They believe that it is possible to conquer all by violent means. In 5-6 years, when the Pentagon will be controlled by people who believe that with missile defense system they can inflict a rapid global nuclear strike, they will make this strike.

Chiesa is convinced that the world is in processes of degeneration, of growing insanity. And the most likely outcome is the third world war. However, if this does not happen, and we will have enough time, then we must build something completely new.

An open meeting of the Sofia Club took place on November 5 in Moscow. The topic of the meeting is “Left Alternatives for Europe”. The International Sofia Club was established in the capital of Bulgaria in 2013 on the initiative of Tatjana Ždanoka and Giulietto Chiesa, the deputies of the European Parliament, Sergei Kurginyan, the leader of the Essence of Time social movement, and Zakhari Zakhariev, President of the Slavic Foundation. Representatives from Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine participate in the discussion.
