Kurginyan wins a lawsuit against Süddeutsche Zeitung

Troitsk district court ruled in favor of the political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in a libel case against German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, Rossa Primavera News Agency reporter informed on October 30.
The court acknowledged that the newspaper’s statement claiming that Kurginyan is a leader of a “red fascist sect” is false. The German newspaper now must refute the discrediting information by publishing the ruling of the Russian court, and it should also pay compensation of 500 thousand rubles (approximately 7 thousand euros).
Sergey Kurginyan’s defense lawyer, Valeriy Shakhov, stressed that Kurginyan is one of the first Russian politicians to sue a foreign media outlet. He also said that Süddeutsche Zeitung was summoned to the court in compliance with the International Convention on Legal Aid.
Sergey Kurginyan, in response to the accusations of being a  leader of a “red fascist sect” made by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, filed a suit to protect his honor and dignity in Troitsk district court of Moscow.
