Ukrainian non-combat losses exceed 10,000 servicemen over 3 years

28.10.2017, Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the armed operation in Donbas non-combat losses of the Ukrainian Army and the nationalist armed groups exceeded ten thousand people, said Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoliy Matios on October 28, TASS news agency reports.

“I want to voice a very frightening statistic, which nobody talks about. Since 2014 up until today the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and other divisions which are protecting our country have suffered the loss of 10 thousand and 103 people due to deaths and sanitary reasons, which are non-combat loses,” Matios said.  He remarked, that the main reason for the existence of non-combat losses is the inadequate execution of guidelines and instructions, as well as the commitment of crimes towards fellow servicemen.

Military confrontations began in April in the east of Ukraine between the nationalist supporters, which came to power as a result of a coup d’etat in Kiev in February of the same year, and the citizens of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which proclaimed the creation of Republics independent from Kiev. According to official data, in the course of the conflict the losses of AFU amount to around 3.8 thousand people.
