Russian Federation Defense Minister: Operation in Syria is close to its end

The operation in Syria is close to its end, the Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu stated on October 16 during his meeting with the Israeli Head of the Defense Ministry Avigdor Lieberman, RIA Novosti informs.

Sergey Shoigu brought up a topic of the Russian operation in Syria in his conversation with the Israeli colleague

“I would like to discuss everything that concerns Syria separately. The operation there is close to its end. Several moments, requiring an immediate solution and the discussion of the perspective of the further development in the situation in Syria, exist” the (Russia) Minister said.

According to the Russian Defense Minister, it is necessary to show unity in the fight against terrorism.

“Amidst growing terrorist activity in this world, we need the international community to be united in the fight against this evil,” Sergey Shoigu stated.

2 years ago, September 30, 2015, Russian Aerospace Forces joined the battle against terrorists in Syria upon the request of Bashar al-Assad, the president of the country, and with the permission of the Russian Federation Council.

In February 2017, Shoigu informed the State Duma that the operation in Syria will be completed in the near future.
