Ex-Congressman: Neocons and “humanitarian interventionists” lied about Syria

03.10.2017, USA.

“The neocons and “humanitarian interventionists” lied [about Syrian events ― Rossa Primavera Information Agency]. Just as they lied about Libya, Iraq, and so on,” the former Representative from Texas Ron Paul wrote on September 3 in his article about the war in Syria.

Ron Paul pointed out that, despite Obama’s statements that all Assad wants is genocide against his own people, the latest UN data showed that 600,000 refugees returned to Syria in August, half of them to Aleppo, where Assad was allegedly waiting to kill them.

“After six years of war the Syrian government has nearly defeated ISIL [organization banned in Russia ― Rossa Primavera Information Agency] and al-Qaeda [organization banned in Russia ― Rossa Primavera Information Agency] and the US-backed “moderates” turned out to be either Islamist extremists or Kurdish soldiers for hire. According to a recent report, the US has shipped two billion dollars worth of weapons to fighters in Syria via eastern Europe. Much of these weapons ended up in the hands of ISIL [organization banned in Russia ― Rossa Primavera Information Agency] directly, or indirectly through “moderates” taking their weapons with them while joining the militants,” the former Representative said.

Also, Ron Paul pointed out that the Assad’s government does not persecute Christians. For example, a 58-year-old Christian, Sabah Hammoudeh, recently became speaker of the Parliament. The American politician also believes that the US policy in the Middle East always hurts Christians.

“Why does it seem that US policy in the Middle East always hurts Christians the most? In Iraq, Christians suffered disproportionately from the 2003 US invasion. In fact there are hardly any Christians left. Why aren’t more US Christian groups demanding that the US get out of the Middle East?” the politician said.

Ron Paul spent many years in Congress as a Representative from Texas, and he twice tried to become a presidential candidate from Republicans, in 2008 and 2012, but failed. Throughout his entire career the politician belonged to Republicans, and still he repeatedly opposed the party’s dominating opinion.

The civil war in Syria has been lasting for six years. In the recent months, the conflict passed a pivot point. Due to the efforts taken by Russia, Turkey, and Iran, a ceasefire agreement was achieved across the entire county’s territory. From the end of this summer, a large-scale operation is going on to liberate Deir ez-Zor which is currently under terrorists’ control. According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, Deir ez-Zor is the last militants’ stronghold in the country.
