22.09.2017, South Korea.

South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in urged North Korean athletes to take part in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Yonhap News Agency reports on September 21.

According to the South Korean President, the participation of North Korean athletes in the Olympic Games would help to de-escalate tensions between the two countries.

“If North Korean athletes participate in the Pyeongchang Olympics, I think it would greatly contribute to realizing Olympic values, which are about bringing humanity together and promoting world peace,” said Moon.

The latest round of escalation around the Democratic People`s Republic of Korea began on September 3,  2017, after Pyongyang`s announcement of a successful hydrogen bomb test. The bomb can be used as a warhead for an intercontinental ballistic missile. Commenting these actions, U.S. President Donald Trump did not rule out the possibility of a military response to the North Korean threat.
