EU High Representative Mogherini: "nuclear deal" with Iran remains in force

22.09.2017, the EU.

The nuclear deal with Iran is in effect, so there is no reason to revise its conditions, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini said on September 21 following the results of the meeting between Iran and six other states, TASS reports.

According to Mogherini, the deal concerning Iran’s nuclear program is being complied with. The deal is producing results, and there is no need to renegotiate it. She also stressed that IAEA confirmed Iran’s compliance with its obligations.

In addition, Mogherini said that the US cannot withdraw from the deal as “it is not a two-sided agreement, or six- or seven-sided agreement, it is the Security Council’s resolution, and it means that all sides shall comply with the deal’s obligations.”

On September 19, the US president Donald Trump said that “the Iran deal is one of the worst deals I’ve ever seen.” At the same time, Iran holds the deal in high value. On September 20, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will not be the first country to violate the agreement.” The nuclear deal provides for the lifting sanctions against Iran in exchange for curbing its nuclear program.
