Syrian Army will soon begin the operation to liberate Deir ez-Zor

05.09.2017, Syria.

On September 3, the governor of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province, Mohammed Ibrahim Samra, said that within 48 hours the Syrian army would reach the city of Deir ez-Zor, which has been besieged by ISIL (organization banned in Russia) for three years, Reuters reported.

“The heroes of the army will arrive at Deir ez-Zor in 24-48 hours at the most,” Mohammed Ibrahim Samra told Reuters by phone, adding that the army was now 18-20 km from the edge of the city.

In September 2014, ISIL (organization banned in Russia) captured an army garrison of the government forces in Deir ez-Zor air base. In early 2016 the terrorists took over large parts of the city. By the end of 2016 the Syrian Army advanced towards Deir ez-Zor, but despite the agreement on a ceasefire in Syria signed by Russia and U.S., the US-led coalition carried out intensive bombings in Deir ez-Zor province. U.S. Virginia State Senator Richard Black later commented on it, “we knew where we were striking; we killed 62 Syrian soldiers, brave innocent men. And somehow we have brushed this aside.” He also admitted that “Russia is really the only truly effective fighting force in Syria.”
