21.08.2017, Syria.

Russia’s  Aerospace Forces (VKS) destroyed a large column of Islamic State ( organization banned in Russia) militants heading to Deir ez-Zor, the Russian Defence Ministry informed on August 21st.

“Russian VKS [Russian Aerospace Forces – Editor] aviation destroyed another large column of ISIL (organization banned in Russia) militants, which was heading to the city of Deir ez-Zor, where international terrorists try to regroup and fortify their last foothold in Syria. More than 20 all-terrain vehicles equipped with large-caliber weapons and mortars, as well as armored vehicles, including tanks, were eliminated. More than 200 militants were killed and heavy field ammunition support vehicles were also destroyed”, the report states.

The militants of ISIL (the organization banned in the Russian Federation), after being pushed out of the provinces of Homs and Raqqa, are trying to fortify and consolidate their forces around Deir ez-Zor. “Crushing militants in Deir ez-Zor will be a strategic defeat of the international terrorist groups in the Syrian Arab Republic”, the Ministry of Defence noted.

Sergey Shoigu, the Russian Minister of Defence, said earlier that Deir ez-Zor is the key location of Syria, the liberation of which becomes decisive in the fight against radical Islamists.
