Polish President hopes for expansion United States military presence in the country

On July 5, in an interview with the Polish Press Agency, Polish President Andrzej Duda expressed his hope that the US military contingent in Poland would be expanded, TV-News online edition reports citing the Polish agency.

Andrzej Duda stressed that the presence of US troops, which contributes to the strengthening of NATO’s eastern flank, is very important for Poland. The Polish leader also expects that the upcoming visit of the US President Donald Trump would result in an increase in the number of US troops stationed in Poland. One of the topics of the forthcoming visit will be the construction of a missile defense complex in the Polish village of Redzikowo. Donald Trump’s visit to Poland is scheduled for July 6.

The NATO summit in Warsaw on July 8-9, 2016, decided to establish multinational battalions in the Baltic countries and in Poland. At the moment, the NATO military battalion in Poland consists of 800 people. In addition to American and British soldiers, the battalion includes soldiers from Romania.
