Monument to the perished children of Donbass unveiled in Lugansk

On June 27, members of Lugansk social organizations unveiled a memorial stele dedicated to the killed children of Donbass, RIA Novosti reported.

Igor Plotnitsky, the Head of the Lugansk People’s Republic, spoke at the unveiling of the monument. “I understand parents who lost their children, but we not just empathize and mourn with them. We say that these children are our common loss“, said the Head of Republic. Participants honored the memory of the killed children with a moment of silence and laid flowers at the monument. Thirty-three white balloons were released into the sky.

Members of the Young Guard youth organization and the Peace to the Lugansk Region social movement opened the memorial stele created by the sculptor Viktor Gorbulin and the architect Vyacheslav Zhenesku.

In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities had begun military action in Donbass. According to representatives of the Peace to the Lugansk Region social movement, 33 children were killed during the war in the LPR (the youngest was only 24 days old), 47 children were injured. According to the UN data, the death toll in the military conflict reached about 10,000 people.
