Iran claims eliminating sleeper terrorist cells

Iran’s Minister of Intelligence Mahmoud Alavi made a statement on June 12 about eliminating sleeper ISIL (organization banned in Russia) terrorist cells, the Al-Hayat newspaper reports.

Sleeper ISIL (organization banned in Russia) cells were eliminated in the course of law enforcement raids conducted in a number of Iranian provinces, including those of Tehran, Kurdistan, Azerbaijan, Bushehr, Kermanshah, and Alborz provinces. Sixty two suspected members of the terrorist group were detained. New suspects continue to be revealed during the investigation.Iran stepped-up law enforcement efforts in fighting ISIL (organization banned in Russia) occurred after large terrorist acts. Terrorists simultaneously attacked Iranian parliament and a tomb of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini on Wednesday, June 7.  Sixteen people died and more than three dozen people were wounded as a result of the terrorist attacks.
