Russian Investigative Committee investigates the killing of Donbass residents

25.05.2017, Russia.

Three criminal cases have been initiated to investigate the killing of Donbass residents, a spokeswoman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Svetlana Petrenko, said on May 25, TASS news agency reports.

“According to the investigation, on May 18, 20, and 21, the servicemen of the Ukrainian army and the National Guard fulfilled manifestly illegal orders received from superior officials of the Defense Ministry, having used heavy artillery of high destructive power for a targeted shelling of civil infrastructure facilities, which were not military targets, in the villages of Kominternovo and Spartak, as well as in the Petrovsky district of the city of Donetsk,” Colonel of Justice, Director of the Media Relations Department, Svetlana Petrenko said.

The criminal case was initiated under Article 356 “ Use of Banned Means and Methods of Warfare” of the Criminal Code of Russia.

“Obviously, the crime committed by the Ukrainian servicemen was motivated, as before, by their political and ideological hatred associated with the denial of the acting government’s legitimacy by the population of Donbass who are willing to establish autonomous self-governing territories,” the spokeswoman explained.

This is not the only case when a foreign national is accused of a violation of the Russian law. On April 19, 2017, a similar charge was brought against Ukrainian army Colonel Sergey Zabolotny and lieutenant-colonel Oleg Gromadsky who executed “manifestly illegal orders received from superior officials of the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard of Ukraine”.
