05.05.2017, DPR.

Gary Tokarev, representative of the Donetsk People’s Republic (the DPR) Prosecutor General’s Office, warned that an environmental disaster threatens the Donbass region, the Federal News Agency reported May 3.

A number of entries into seven coal mines in the DPR experienced electrical blackout and subsequent flooding due to shelling by the Ukrainian army. This causes a critical situation for the rest of the mines of the region which are connected by the integrated hydrological system, and for the environment,” said Gary Tokarev.

The representative stated that the groundwater could come to the surface and flood several cities and towns of the Donetsk People’s Republic in case the integrated hydrological system of the damaged mines is completely flooded.

Low-intensity fighting continues along the contact line of the opposing sides.  The Ukrainian army continues to draw new armed units to the border with the Donetsk People’s Republic according to DPR intelligence.  The shelling of DPR infrastructure continues.
