Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation: Terrorist groups do not form on their own

10.04.2017, Russia.

In general, terrorist groups do not appear on their own, but are the result of the activity of external forces.

Alexander Fomin, Deputy Minister of Defense said this on March 10th in his interview with Russia Today.

According to the Deputy Minister, terrorist groups are only puppets in someone else’s game.

Fomin stressed that although not all terrorist organizations arise with external support, most – if not the vast majority – do. He said, “This is the fruit and creation of large-scale political, financial, military, and organizational efforts, which are usually external in origin”. He also added: “Obviously, today we are witnessing a new international phenomenon, both in the military and the political sense. Technologies are now available which allow for the export of revolutions from outside to other states; to bring in, establishment and enforce of so-called democratic regimes in states that allegedly suffer from undemocratic regimes”.

Fomin noted that such actions are harmful and cause damage to entire states. “As a result of this policy, some states have already disappeared from the map of the world, and some are currently on the verge of it. Today we see this in Syria and Yemen.” The Deputy Minister added that in the 21st century the threat of terrorism cannot be overcome alone, but only by joint efforts and action.

In the spring of 2003, Camp Bucca was organized near the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border. Initially, Iraqi military personnel, who were captured during the US military campaign against Saddam Hussein’s regime, were placed there. Later militants of the “Islamic state” groups (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation) began to enter the camp, where they were under constant American supervision.

Thus, according to various sources, at least nine leaders of the “Islamic state” groups (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation) ended up in Camp Bucca. One of them was Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, their future leader, who was released from the prison afterwards. Camp Bucca is considered as one of the key focal points where the core of this terrorist organization was prepared and trained under American patronage.
