Kurginyan: Russia’s 30-year dream of entering the West is in ruins

10.04.2017, Russia.

The Westernist path is a dead end for Russia, and if it isn’t changed soon, it will have destructive consequences for the country, Sergey Kurginyan, the leader of the “Essence of Time” movement , said on  April 9 during the “Sunday evening with Vladimir Solovyov” political TV show on the “Russia 1” TV channel.

In his speech on Vladimir Solovyov’s TV program, Sergey Kurginyan said that it is necessary to “draw a line” under the 30-year dream of Russia’s entering into the Western World: “The situation is difficult because people are sitting on the ruins of a dream that is 30 years old.” The political scientist stressed that the project of joining Europe was being pursued since 1979, when the discussion on  German Reunificaion began. This project was then carried out during perestroika and all the post-Soviet times. But today Russian elites must admit that this is the road to a dead-end. “We can’t go where you were leading us,”  said Kurginyan.

“You should say that we cannot move toward the West anymore! Repent for leading the country in this direction!” said the political scientist. “Admit that this has failed: ‘Dear citizens of Russia! Our persistent and stubborn attempts to  lead Russia into the West have failed.’ This is the first point of conversation. “

According to Sergey Kurginyan, refusing to enter the West is the first important step in order to salvage the situation, and this step must be taken in the next five months. “If this is not done in the next five months, then the pro-Western course will run us into a wall, and that will be the end,” he noted.

A sharp deterioration in relations between Russia and the West came after the accession of Crimea in 2014 as a result of a referendum. The referendum in the autonomous republic was a reaction on the anti-Russian policy of the new leaders of the Ukrainian state, who came to power after a coup supported by the US and Western countries.
