Massive rallies in support of the establishment of the DPR management over the enterprises under Ukrainian jurisdiction and of the enhancement of economic ties with Russia were held in Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, RIA Novosti news agency informed in February 28th.

In Donetsk People’s Republic, the residents of a large industrial city of Yenakievo and employees of Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works, which stopped working because of the Ukrainian blockade against Donbass, held the rally in the downtown. Around 10,000 people supported the establishment of the DPR management over the enterprises.

A large rally was held in Lugansk, where over 7,000 people demanded to lift the blockade against Donbass.

At the end of January, Ukrainian nationalists blocked the cargo traffic across the contact line. As a result of the blockade such large industrial enterprises like Alchevsk Iron & Steel Works in DPR, Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works and Krasnodonugol plant in LPR stopped working.

On February 27th the Heads of Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had issued an ultimatum to the Ukrainian side, “If the blockade would not be lifted before March 1st, 2017, we shall establish the DPR management over all the enterprises under Ukrainian jurisdiction that operate in DPR and LPR.”
