Ilovaysk mayor: Around 65% of infrastructure and apartments restored in the town

25.01.2017, DPR.

In Ilovaysk town of Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), repair of houses, apartment buildings, and infrastructure is completed by 65%, the Head of the local administration Sergey Mukovnin said to a Donetsk News Agency reporter.

“There were many damages and destructions in the town, but we restored many of the objects already. To date, around 35% of houses and infrastructural facilities are still to be repaired, but we are doing our utmost to complete the repair works,” the mayor said.

According to Mukovnin, there are 3 schools and 3 kindergartens in Ilovaysk town. To date, only one of the kindergartens is closed for reconstruction. The remained preschool and school facilities are working despite the ongoing repair works. The repair also continues in the residential areas.

“Those of residents, who have returned to their reconstructed houses, are very pleased with the results. The people, having their houses not yet reconstructed and no money to rent an apartment or unable to live with their relatives, are living in the dorm rooms, which we have offered,” the mayor said.

The Head of the town has expressed the hope that the reconstruction will be continued in this year, and that all the objects and facilities damaged during the war will be repaired.

Ilovaysk is one of the most affected by the war towns of DPR. This town west of the capital was attacked by the Ukrainian army in summer 2014. “Ilovaysk pocket” has become a symbol of the defeat of the Ukrainian army. The enemy lost 1000 fighters killed during the disengagement due to the encirclement. The town was liberated on August 29th of the same year. It is in the rear of the DPR army now. The repair works continue.
