After amnesty of 1955 he fled to Mexico, where, together with other enemies of Batista’s regime he began to prepare the plan of an armed uprising. On November 25, 1956, Cuban revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro went to Cuba on Granma yacht. Even though Castro’s unit was small, revolutionaries were supported by local residents, and a part of the army sided with Castro. They were victorious. U.S. government made several attempts to overthrow the new Cuban government. On May 1, 1962, Castro declared that Cuban revolution is socialist. Cuba actively aided countries and people struggling against imperialism.
