Syrian army regained control of the Khanasir town which stands on a key supply road of Aleppo city, having recaptured it from the terrorist group “Islamic State” (Organization banned in Russia), a military source in the Syrian army told RIA Novosti on Thursday.
“Army supported by militia managed to recapture Khanasir from ISIL [Organization banned in Russia- Editor]. By capturing the town earlier, the militants managed to paralyze the only road to Aleppo“, he told the agency.
According to the source, the fierce combats for the strategically important town lasted for several days. Advance Army units were protected by aviation and artillery. At the moment traffic on the road Khanasir – Aleppo is not resumed as there is still a possibility of terrorist counterattacks.
