The former president of Georgia, and now governor of the Odessa region of Ukraine, Mikhail Saakashvili drew attention to the fact that the level of economic development of the Ukranian junta slipped to the standards of African Gabon country and that it will take 15 years at the current pace of development to reach the economic performance indicators Ukraine had at the time of the ex-president, Viktor Yanukovich.
“Ukraine’s GDP fell from $ 184 billion to 115 billion, it fell to a per capita level of Gabon. With all due respect to Africa, Ukraine now is Gabon“, he said on air of the TV program “Shuster-Live”.
In addition, Saakashvili pointed to the significant increase in the level of the shadow economy.
“The shadow economy increased from 32% to 47% during the last 1.5 years of the present government. The shadow economy has increased, no matter how much they tell us that they fight it. It is a fact confirmed by international organizations that the shadow economy increased, black money is in circulation… it’s killing the business,” said the governor of the Odessa region.
He also stressed that approximately 400 billion hryvnia ($ 18.5 billion) were lost after 53 banks were closed.
“If Ukraine will develop like this, by 2-3% per year, then we will reach the level of 2013 – the last year of Yanukovych – only in 15 years, if there will be no radical reforms in the country”, Saakashvili concluded.
